Adapted from a French social news event, it reflects the deep influence of American popular culture on today's French youth through a case of teenage robbery and murder, leading them to blindly idolize America and lose their sense of legitimate existence. The main characters are three young adults around twenty years old: Nathalie and Éric are a couple who dream of saving ten million francs to go to America and open a clothing store. They encourage their friend Bruno, who lives with them, to join in a robbery. The method is for Nathalie to act as bait to lure wealthy single men, then to let the two men enter the house to rob them, but the plan goes awry and someone ends up dead... Director Bertrand Tavernier vividly portrays the nihilistic lifestyle of rootless youth with striking modern colors and a rebellious spirit, creating an excellent piece of social realism that won the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival.
