Wyatt (Henry Fonda), Banner (Tim Holt), Morgan (Ward Bond), and James (Don Garner) are four brothers who share a strong bond. One day, James is brutally murdered, and the other three suspect the Creighton family. To uncover the cause of James's death, Wyatt decides to stay in town and becomes a sheriff. He unknowingly befriends a doctor named Holliday (Victor Mature). Wyatt falls in love with a beautiful woman named Clementine (Cathy Downs), who happens to be Holliday's fiancée. Wyatt eventually gathers evidence that the Creighton family murdered James, and they decide to resolve the issue through a duel. During the duel, tragedy strikes, and the Creighton family receives their due punishment.
