The folk tales about Zhengde, such as the legendary story of "the Wandering Dragon and Dancing Phoenix," are widely discussed. However, the legend of Emperor Zhengde is not limited to that: he had a great curiosity and a rich imagination, personally designing weird hats for officials; he mingled with his ministers, abandoning the emperor's dragon throne to squeeze into a common carriage; he was dissatisfied with palace life, opening a "food street" in the capital and serving as the street chief; not long after ascending the throne, he moved out of the Forbidden City, building a new residence called "Leopard House," where he personally trained tigers and leopards, establishing a zoo; he had an infinite love for battle, first self-styling as "Mighty General" Zhu Shou, then declaring himself "Duke of the State," and finally self-proclaiming as "Grand Tutor." As a result, ministers asked him: who is the so-called Mighty General Zhu Shou? If this person does not exist, it is a forged imperial decree, and he should be executed according to the law!
