In a remote mountain village in Kofu, Japan, an old and worn-out bus travels along a quiet country road. The driver, Sonoda (played by Kenta Fujiwara), and the beautiful ticket seller, Akoma (played by Hideko Takamine), wake up early and work late every day, welcoming and sending off guests heading to various destinations. Despite their hard work, their income has always been meager, showing little sign of improvement. Struggling to make ends meet, the company decides to create a special tourist route targeting visitors from different areas. Inspired by this idea, Sonoda and Akoma begin to prepare. Coincidentally, a self-proclaimed novelist, Ikawa (played by Daijiro Natsukawa), visits the local attractions, so they ask him to write a speech for the tour... This film is based on Masuji Ibuse's short story "Okoma-san" and marks the first collaboration between director Mikio Naruse and actress Hideko Takamine.
