In the late Tang Dynasty, the imperial family was weak, and the ninth prince Li Rubi was forced to flee. Huihai, a lay disciple of the Arhat Temple, witnessing the injustice, hid him in the temple. The old abbot of the Arhat Temple recognized the unexpected guest as the current prince and advised him to temporarily take refuge in the monastic life, shaving his head to become a monk, with the Dharma name "Wuchun." That night, the Eighteen Arhats descended from the West and manifested their sacred presence, reshaping their golden bodies, renewing the Arhat Temple overnight and causing a sensation, attracting a thriving incense offering. There were rumors among the people that the Eighteen Arhats had left behind a Buddhist treasure, and whoever obtained it could gain the world, stirring jealousy among the military governors of various provinces. To protect the temple, the old abbot chose to turn it to ashes, along with the Arhat Temple! Out of anger, Huihai set off alone to seek revenge for his master but was thrown into a death cell by the military governor of Beizhou, Li Jiuchong; Wuchun, in search of Huihai, was also captured and forced into labor, suffering humiliation. Eccentric figures like Drunken Three Years, Quick Hand Wu, and Dumpling Xishi, led by the righteous thief Hongxiao, rescued Huihai. Hongxiao secretly loved Huihai, while Huihai always regarded her as a brother. He deeply loved the herbalist girl Jiner in the village, but Jiner unconditionally fell in love with his senior brother Wuchun. To save Jiner, Huihai risked his life to rescue Wuchun. Li Jiuchong's daughter Qingqing was unsure whether she liked Huihai or Wuchun; her feelings were ambivalent between the two. Li Jiuchong exploited Qingqing's naïve recklessness to capture Huihai again. After deep reflection, Wuchun realized the truth: there was no paradise on earth, and without eliminating the warlords, there would be no peace. He, along with Hongxiao, Drunken Three Years, and others, formed the "Arhat Team" and, under the name of the Eighteen Arhats, rescued Huihai repeatedly. From then on, the "Eighteen Arhats Team" displayed their abilities, acting heroically and rescuing the people from danger; even Qingqing joined them. Their righteous deeds aligned with the Buddhist intention of saving all sentient beings, gaining the secret assistance of the Eighteen Arhats. The military governors of various provinces, unable to discern authenticity, became suspicious of each other and fought among themselves, leading to their own demise. After Wuchun was appointed as the crown prince, he requested the old emperor to grant favors to the "Arhat Team" and to marry Jiner. The old emperor refused and sent troops to surround the "Arhat Team," and Jiner was killed by an arrow while trying to break through the encirclement. Huihai and Wuchun then saw through the illusions of the world, realizing the emptiness of all things, and sincerely took refuge in Buddhism. From deep within the mountains, the sound of the Arhat Temple's bell rang out once more…
