Nicknamed "Zombie," the thin young man Andy (played by Silu Seppälä) returns to his hometown of Helsinki after being away for six months, but as soon as he steps off the boat, he is taken away by the police in front of his friends who are there to welcome him... Zombie once served in the army but was quickly discharged, leading him to hitch a ride with a band—the Devil's Train—where he meets a girl named Mario. Zombie is constantly plagued by an unshakeable loneliness; he cannot hold onto any job and is indifferent to work. War news often plays on the television, and the faces of the dead leave Zombie inexplicably terrified. His relationship with Mario is also intermittent. When his friend's band is short a member, Zombie steps in as the bassist, but once again, he messes things up, prompting his friend to blame him and causing Zombie to leave Finland, disappearing in the foreign land of Istanbul... This film won the Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Actor awards at the 1992 Finnish Film Jussi Awards, as well as the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the 1991 San Sebastián International Film Festival, and the Directing Award at the 1992 Rouen Nordic Film Festival.
