In 1937, imperialist Japan launched a full-scale invasion of China. In the same year, the Battle of Shanghai began. After three months of intense combat, the fall of Shanghai was imminent. At this critical moment, Xie Jinyuan (played by Du Chun), the deputy regiment commander of the 524th Regiment of the 88th Division of the National Revolutionary Army, was ordered to lead a reinforced battalion to hold the Sihang Warehouse by the Suzhou River. Ironically, the other side of the Suzhou River was the concession, thus people from both China and foreign countries in the concession gathered to witness this gripping defense battle. Over the next four days and five nights, as a member of the "Eight Hundred Heroes," Yang Guai (played by Wang Qianyuan), Duanwu (played by Ou Hao), Lao Tie (played by Jiang Wu), and Lao Suanpan (played by Zhang Yi) each revealed the truest side of human nature under the test of life and death, and their feats would leave a significant mark in history... This film is adapted from the events of the Sihang Warehouse defense during the Anti-Japanese War.
