He invites his mistress Carla (played by Sandra Milo) to the resort for company, but her arrival only adds to his troubles. At this moment, the lively young woman Claudia (played by Claudia Cardinale) appears, bringing a splash of brightness to Guido's suppressed world. However, as Guido's wife Luisa (played by Anouk Aimée) and many people from the film industry arrive at the resort, Guido can no longer bear the chaos of his personal life and the dual pressure of filmmaking. His mental crisis intensifies, with dreams and hallucinations continuously invading his reality... This film won two Academy Awards in 1964: Best Foreign Language Film and Best Costume Design (Black and White).
