In 1995, on Hainan Island, Kang Jie, a member of a young martial arts team, falls in love with Lan Jing, a music academy student from a musical family. However, they face strong opposition from Jing's father, Lan Guodong. The young lovers are oblivious to the world's challenges and prioritize their relationship. Jie is a martial arts prodigy, and at the time when the country strongly promotes Sanda, he is selected by coach Guo Lihua to undergo a year of intensive training in Wuhan. Unexpectedly, this brief separation leads Jie and Jing to become worlds apart. Just as Jie is on the verge of becoming a national Sanda representative, Jing is forced into marriage by her father. After receiving a letter from Jing, Jie, eager to return home, secretly participates in a commercial Sanda match outside the academy for a prize of 8,000 yuan. This infuriates his coach, Hua, leading to a fallout between them. In the ring, Jie gives his all to win the championship. As he prepares to return home with the prize money, he is confronted by Guodong, who threatens to do anything to keep Jie away from Jing and, in a fit of rage, attacks Jie. Unmoved, Jie stands his ground; Guodong storms off, leaving Jie injured. In a moment of inattention, Jie is hit by a car driven by Fu An, falling into a coma. In 2003, in Shanghai, Jie has been unconscious for three years. For the past five years, he has been living with Quan, who he met by chance, knowing nothing of his identity before the age of 25. They make a living through odd jobs, leading a busy but carefree life with the secret help of "landlady" Ye Bing. Jie has abandoned his desire to uncover the mystery of his past. Quan, being a martial arts enthusiast, is passionate about unrealistic techniques such as Iron Sand Palm, Water Drift, and Wall Technique. One day, Quan goes to a Sanda gym as a student and is beaten by the gym's Sanda champion, Chang Sheng. When Jie arrives and sees Quan struggling, he resolutely steps in, enduring Chang’s relentless punches, and inadvertently gets struck on his old left ear injury. In a critical moment, instinct drives Jie to unleash a powerful counterpunch, unexpectedly taking down Chang. This act of self-defense inadvertently reveals pieces of Jie's mysterious past...
