Directed by renowned Italian actor turned director Sergio Castellitto, the film is adapted from the novel of the same name by the director's wife, Margaret Mazzantini. The couple collaborated on the screenplay once again after their 2004 film "Don't Move," which also starred Penélope Cruz. "In This World" tells the story of a single mother, Gemma (played by Penélope Cruz), whose husband died in the Bosnian War. Years later, she returns to the land where her husband died with her 16-year-old son, Sarajevo, only to face the trials and tribulations reignited by the wars of the 1990s.
