The first part of "The Plum Blossom Trilogy," the origin of all stories. During the Qing Dynasty, the Fuyin of the Duke of Shuo's mansion, in order to preserve her status, allowed her newborn daughter to drift away with the water, while a prepared baby boy became the first Beile of the Duke's household. Eighteen years later, the baby boy, Hao Zhen (played by Ma Jingtao), has grown up and fallen in love with Bai Yingshuang (played by Chen Derong), a woman who makes a living by singing. However, his identity forces him to marry the current emperor's favorite sister. Unofficially, Yingshuang lives in a secluded house, waiting for Hao Zhen to visit her occasionally. But Hao Zhen vows to give Yingshuang a proper identity. He confesses his feelings to his mother and brings Yingshuang closer to the mansion, increasing their chances to meet under the guise of a maidservant. Yet, the princess is not an ordinary person and has already seen through their mutual affections. She starts to play tricks on Yingshuang. The Fuyin, who already has a fondness for Yingshuang, is shocked when she recognizes the plum blossom mark on Yingshuang; it turns out she is the baby girl she abandoned 18 years ago. All loves, hates, and conflicts converge in this story. Will this pair of lovers have a happy ending?
