The story takes place in Yanzhou West Village, Wenxian County, Shanxi Province, where the young Liu Hulan (played by Chi Huaqiong) becomes the leader of a children's group, assisting adults in various anti-Japanese activities and leading her friends in guarding the area and checking travel passes.
