The story takes place in Yanzhou West Village, Wenxian County, Shanxi Province, where the young Liu Hulan (played by Chi Huaqiong) becomes the leader of a children's group, assisting adults in various anti-Japanese activities and leading her friends in guarding the area and checking travel passes. After the victory of the War of Resistance, the Yan bandits arrived, and Liu Hulan participated in a women's cadre training class, learning more about revolutionary principles. In June 1946, she honorably joined the Communist Party. She was sent back to the village by the organization to mobilize women to make military shoes and deliver grain to support the front line. Along with her friend Xuemei (played by Li Xiudong), she disguised herself and infiltrated the puppet government office to deceive the enemy and report them to the government for suppression. One day in 1947, due to betrayal, Liu Hulan and some village cadres were captured. Yan bandit Zhang Dahuzi (played by Li Lanfeng) used threats and temptations to force her to reveal the names of hidden party members and farmers' association cadres, threatening to execute her if she refused. Liu Hulan, with righteous indignation, replied sternly: "If you're afraid of death, you shouldn't be a Communist!" Then she calmly laid down under the guillotine that had already killed six village cadres...
