Four years ago, Emily (Rooney Mara) fell into depression after her husband Martin (Channing Tatum) was imprisoned. Now that Martin is out of jail, Emily's depression has not diminished; in fact, she attempts to commit suicide by driving in a parking lot. After a failed suicide attempt, Dr. Jon (Jude Law) begins to treat her. Jon learns that Emily's previous doctor was Siebert and seeks him out for information. Jon prescribes several medications for depression, but they seem ineffective. Emily requests to take a medication called Ablixa, recommended by her colleague Julia. After taking this new drug, Emily's condition improves, but she begins to sleepwalk. Jon informs her that sleepwalking is a side effect of this medication. One night, when Martin returns home, he finds Emily sleepwalking in the kitchen, and she accidentally stabs him with a knife. Martin dies, and the court finds Emily not guilty, but she must undergo treatment in a mental hospital. Jon becomes embroiled in the aftermath of the incident and begins to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder, discovering that the situation is more complicated than just Emily experiencing side effects from the medication—more people are involved...
