In a remote northern town, one street lined with homes on one side and businesses on the other forms a complete yet dilapidated community. A 12-year-old boy named Thomas (played by Leonard Lucieer) spends his days dressing like the African leader Lumumba, whom he idolizes. His mother Martha (Annet Malherbe) has become a believer after hearing the teachings of the Holy Sound and refuses to engage in intimacy with her husband. His father Jacob (Jack Wouterse), a butcher, suffers from sexual longing, only able to voyeur on other women in the shop. The postman Pleyg (Alex van Warmerdam) is Thomas's only friend, with a hobby of stealing and opening other people's letters. The ranger patrols with a gun all day, repeatedly looking for trouble with the postman. One day, the arrival of a Black man disrupts the seemingly peaceful life of the town...
