Based on the classic fairy tale "The Adventures of Pinocchio," it tells the story of an old carpenter (Roberto Benigni) who carves a puppet that unexpectedly comes to life. The carpenter treats the puppet as his son and names him "Pinocchio" (Federico Ielapi). The carpenter patiently teaches Pinocchio, but the playful Pinocchio runs off to the circus to watch a puppet show, which leads to a journey away from home.
