In 1905, Central Hong Kong. Revolutionaries are brutally assassinated. Knowing that Sun Yat-sen (played by Zhang Hanyu) is about to arrive in Hong Kong, the Qing court sends General Yan Xiaoguo (played by Hu Jun) to hunt him down. He recruits the gambler Shen Zhongyang (played by Donnie Yen) as a spy. Coincidentally, during a celebration for businessman Li Yutang's (played by Wang Xueqi) son Li Chongguang (played by Wang Bojie), Shen Zhongyang sees his ex-wife Yue Ru (played by Fan Bingbing) and their young daughter now part of another family and leaves in sorrow.
