This drama tells a rugged, heroic, and tragic story centered around the love, hatred, and complex fate of the swordsman Ba Dun, showcasing his helpless and sorrowful life journey in the richly-themed backdrop of the western desert. Strong-willed and competitive, Ba Dun lives by gambling with blades. The young and beautiful widow Gan Cao deeply loves him. Gan Cao and her son Dan Dan rely on the peddler "Camel" for their livelihood, who is also deeply in love with Gan Cao. Gan Cao and Ba Dun's love leaves "Camel" feeling bitter and dejected. Ba Dun is renowned for his exceptional knife-throwing skills, often being exploited by the local bullies Ma Jiu and Wu Ye, participating in their gambling games at the cost of swordsmen's lives. During a gambling match between Wu Ye and Ma Jiu, "Camel" kills Ma Jiu for Gan Cao, only to meet his own untimely demise. In retaliation, Ba Dun kills Wu Ye, ending his swordsman career, and he, along with Gan Cao and Dan Dan, ends up in a small town in the desert, living a quiet life as a blacksmith. At this time, the bandit chief Yang Mingyuan arrives in the town, making a living by running a coffin shop. To boost his business, he intentionally stirs up conflict between the local wealthy man Li Zhaolian and the owner of the brewery Hu Wei, inciting violence between the two. However, Ba Dun resolves the conflict and calms the situation, not wanting the peaceful life of the small town to be altered by hatred. Consequently, Yang Mingyuan harbors resentment against Ba Dun, schemes to usurp Ba Dun's position as town chief, and plots to harm Li Zhaolian's son, framing Hu Wei, ultimately inciting a feud between the Li and Hu families, resulting in casualties throughout the town. Ba Dun, unable to tolerate it any longer, dons his blade clothing once more... Ten years later, Dan Dan has grown into adulthood. Due to the family's impoverished situation, they can't afford a bride for him, so they trade a camel left by "Camel" to a human trafficker for a girl named Huan Huan to marry Dan Dan. The whole family hopes to live in peace and safety. But fate plays tricks; after marrying, Dan Dan discovers he has a shameful illness and cannot share a bed with Huan Huan. This fact comes to the attention of the trafficker Zhao Zhen, who seizes the opportunity to take Huan Huan for himself, bringing humiliation to Ba Dun's family. Gan Cao’s attempts to sue Zhao Zhen are futile; Dan Dan's revenge against Zhao Zhen fails, and they can only leave for another place. Ba Dun, filled with bitterness and sorrow, sits helplessly in the desolate desert.
