Gao Ge (Gao Jie) receives a call from Xiao Mahua (Joey Wang) and rushes to the night market, where he finds Bian Tou (Lin Qiang) badly beaten and bruised. Instead of resorting to violence, he seeks justice from the police but ends up being caught himself, realizing his awkward situation—turns out that abandoning violence for culture only makes things more embarrassing. Reflecting on his past in the underworld, he feels all that remains is disappointment. Because he doesn't understand the necessity to keep up with the times, Gao Ge appears quite "pathetic"; while the world has changed, he clings to his old cloud. At 30, he is family-oriented, values loyalty, and has thoughts, but he doesn’t want to get by through violence. However, he finds himself powerless to change his environment, and can only look for ways to adapt, yet the outcome of this adaptation is a dual failure in career and love. When he is with Xiao Mahua and Bian Tou, he can briefly relax, but they are all in the same segment of the food chain, and all they can do is try to make their laughter last a little longer.
