The film is adapted from the novel by former film journalist Tom Bradby.The story's origin takes place in 1973, when a little girl named Clota gets her brother killed due to a mishap while escorting him. Twenty years later, the adult Clota (played by Andrea Riseborough) becomes a radical member of the Irish Republican Army to seek revenge and teams up with two other brothers, Gri and Cornel, to take on a difficult task assigned by the organization—causing a massive explosion in the London Underground. However, during this operation, Clota is intercepted by a senior British MI5 officer, Mike (played by Clive Owen), who gives her two choices: serve 25 years in prison and never see her son again, or betray her brothers and become a secret informant for MI5. Consequently, Clota is forced to betray her family in the IRA and her own beliefs. But during multiple operations, both sides discover that there is a mole at work, and Clota is the first to be targeted as a sacrificial victim...
