To deal with the mafia, FBI agent Pistone (played by Johnny Depp) must say goodbye to his wife and three daughters, going undercover as Donnie Brasco to infiltrate the Lucciano crime family. To gain the trust of the gang's members, Donnie participates in a series of criminal activities under the leadership of boss "Lefty" (played by Al Pacino), gradually obtaining evidence of their crimes. During this extended period of close interaction, "Lefty" comes to trust Donnie greatly, and Donnie witnesses "Lefty's" softer side, slowly growing to respect him, feeling hesitant and failing to report back to his superiors in a timely manner; at the same time, due to the nature of undercover work, Donnie has little contact with his wife and daughters, and his family life is on the verge of collapse. At this point, internal gang conflicts begin, with "Lefty's" superior, Gallo, eliminating dissenters, unleashing a bloody storm. Donnie must also face the choice of being either "loyal" or "treacherous."
