"The Legend of Zhongkui" consists of four stories: "Exorcising Demons in the Tiger Town," "The Princess's Three Lifetimes of Love," "The Merciless Exorcism," and "Even Angels Have Hatred." In "Exorcising Demons in the Tiger Town," Zhongkui is dispatched to the mortal realm to capture demons but discovers that the brave and incorruptible constable Cheng Menxue, admired by the people, is possessed by a wolf demon and possibly the descendant of Wu Dalang. "The Princess's Three Lifetimes of Love" tells the story of Zhongkui, who, to protect the Jade Emperor's Sixth Princess and the son of the demon realm's Peng King, travels back in time to their past lives, presenting a humorous, mythological version of the Liang Zhu legend. In "The Merciless Exorcism," Zhongkui teams up with a folk hero to seek justice for a wronged woman, while the heartless man is transformed into a mad donkey-headed demon after his punishment. "Even Angels Have Hatred" narrates a tale similar to "The Wronged Dou E," where the Ice and Snow Goddess embarks on a path of no return for revenge, causing snow to fall in June in the human world.
