Polish filmmaker Jesse finds himself in trouble while filming for a television station in France. Not only does he go seriously over budget and lose inspiration, but the film titled "Lust" becomes dull and lifeless. The hotel where the film crew is staying is owned by Hannah. She lives with Michel, who runs his own factory and recently fired the cleaner Isabella. Both Hannah and Isabella are fascinated by director Jesse, and the hotel maids have all quit their jobs to compete to become extras. People ask the director where the story of the film is: women undress, and the extras caress each other outside. The director wonders: why does there have to be a story? A film crew is shooting in a village but the director fails to find the right lighting for the film. Filming gets delayed. The investors of the film are anxious, especially since this film called "Lust" has no plot... Conflicts arise in the local factory as the boss fires a female worker who wants to form a union. This female worker hopes the director will take an interest in her plight, while the director wants the landlady of the hotel to act in his film. Work and desire intertwine...
