In the late Qing dynasty, in the capital, lawyer Ji Xueli (played by Li Baotian) is meticulous but tricky, while Guangdong lawyer Song Shijie (played by Chen Xiaochun) is eloquent but always loves money. Both are fond of investigating strange cases and have solved many bizarre cases, gaining fame and being known as the "South and North Great Lawyers." They meet in the capital, and due to their high aspirations and cultural differences, they conflict repeatedly, causing amusing situations. They compete to see who is better at solving cases; Ji Xueli, well-informed, solves a case of stolen cattle in the Forbidden City through the nose prints of the cattle, while Song Shijie, meticulous, cracks the case of a murdered painter by analyzing the shape of cat eyes. They remind each other and work together to solve several strange cases, including a murder in a sealed room. Just as they shake hands to become friends, a storm brews; a long-standing wrongful case Ji Xueli has been investigating actually involves Song Shijie's family.
