Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) is a bank employee who leads a mundane life like any honest person. One day, he falls deeply in love with a blonde beauty, Tina (Cameron Diaz), who turns out to be working for gangster Dorian (Peter Greene), sent to scout the bank before a heist. Dorian successfully robs the bank where Stanley works.
One night, Stanley unexpectedly acquires a strange mask. After wearing the mask, Stanley gains incredible strength and agility. He begins to prank those who bully him and steals the money Dorian has heisted, dancing with Tina at the nightclub. Once Dorian learns about the mask's power, he schemes to take it from Stanley, who ends up in jail. Will Stanley be able to outsmart Dorian and regain the mask, ultimately ending up with Tina?
