Before liberation, Tan Yansheng, who started his career selling fried stinky tofu, founded the time-honored restaurant "Dama Building." Tan Yansheng was an exceptional cook and took in three apprentices, Zhang Huize, Sun Jiliang, and Gu Shun, at his wedding reception with Xiumei. Ultimately, the studious and talented Gu Shun, known as the "cooking maniac," received Tan Yansheng's true teachings. In his early years, the second apprentice Sun Jiliang fell in love with Xiumei and, driven by jealousy, intended to replace Tan Yansheng. He secretly colluded with others, causing Tan Yansheng to lose all his possessions at the gambling table and then committing suicide by jumping into the river on the day his son Tan Wenhwa was born. Sun Jiliang took over "Dama Building." Faced with this sudden upheaval, Gu Shun disappeared along with the iconic sign of "Dama Building." The eldest apprentice Zhang Huize, together with Si Ping, rescued Xiumei and her child from Sun Jiliang. After liberation, the government implemented land reform, and Sun Jiliang could not escape the fate of being labeled a capitalist. "Dama Building" was also confiscated and became state property. However, the enmity of the previous generation did not allow their love to exist. They eloped and took shelter in the home of Tan Yansheng's son Tan Wenhwa. Faced with pressure, Zhang Shifeng and Sun Xiaohui both chose to die together, leaving behind a child still in swaddling. In a panic, Zhang Huize took Tan's daughter away and let his adopted son Xu Shiqiang raise her, while the flesh and blood of the Zhang and Sun families were left in the Tan household. The blood ties and enmity between master and apprentice quietly continued in these three families...
