Bruno S. (played by Bruno S.) is a street performer whose poverty-stricken life leaves him feeling hopeless. Encouraged by his neighbors, he and his girlfriend Eva (played by Eva Mattes) decide to travel to America to embark on a gold rush journey. After Eva raises the travel expenses by selling her body, the three set off. Upon arriving in America, everything seems bright and full of hope. They all find stable jobs and live a peaceful life, saving a bit of money. By chance, Bruno learns through a friend that he can obtain his own house through installment payments, and dreaming of having a home, he takes the plunge without hesitation.
The date for the first payment quickly arrives, but Bruno discovers they can't afford the high mortgage. Soon after comes the second payment date. The bank seizes Bruno's property, and in a foreign land, he becomes a destitute vagabond once again. After futile struggles, Bruno resigns himself to fate, ending his life in a desolate amusement park.
