Hong Kong is a civilized, rule-of-law society, and there should not be an inhumane and lawless prison, especially one responsible for detaining minor offenders aged 14 to under 25, misleadingly called a labor education center. The imprisoned individuals experience physical, mental, and spiritual abuse and humiliation daily; it can be said that it is a hell on earth. The protagonist, Afan, is a gangster leader who was sentenced to a labor education center after a minor conflict with police. Three days into his imprisonment, unable to endure the brutal treatment, he decides to commit suicide. After being rescued, he clings to the belief that he must be released to visit his critically ill grandmother, enduring humiliation to survive, ultimately managing to leave with the shortest sentence. Throughout this process, Afan witnesses and experiences various humiliations, including a bizarre death of a fellow inmate, with the truth forever buried in the sea. Is there really only one way to reform someone? Does the world really need such a labor education center?
