Rosencrantz (played by Gary Oldman) and Guildenstern (played by Tim Roth) are two minor characters in Shakespeare's famous play "Hamlet." This film examines the tragedy through their actions. While on their way back to Denmark's Elsinore, they encounter many strange occurrences, such as a coin thrown by Rosencrantz always landing on the same side, and a peculiar theater troupe they come across. Upon arriving at the palace, they meet the King and Queen, who ask them to get close to Prince Hamlet to understand the reason behind his melancholy. They then recommend the theater troupe to the prince. The prince uses the troupe to stage a story about murdering a brother, usurping his position, and marrying his sister-in-law, which greatly displeases the King. Consequently, the King orders Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to secretly take the prince to England for execution. However, Hamlet inadvertently discovers their letters and learns of the plot against him... This film is adapted from the play of the same name.
