The story takes place at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, a historic institution that serves as the best place for many passionate young men to realize their dreams and ambitions. As one of the top students, Jack (played by James Franco) becomes a part of the Naval Academy. However, Jack, who fantasizes about achieving great success, finds himself overwhelmed by the heavy academic load and harsh training from the moment he arrives, and his unsatisfactory grades put him at risk of expulsion. To regain his confidence and to prove himself in front of his condescending instructor Ali (played by Jordana Brewster), Jack decides to participate in the academy's military boxing championship, where only the best students in the long history of the academy can achieve ultimate victory in the competition.
