In an ordinary residential area, there lives the simple Okabe family of four. The male protagonist, Okabe (played by Yamaguchi Isamu), is a salesman for Musashi Life Insurance, but his performance is mediocre, resulting in a pitifully low income. Consequently, their home is in disrepair, and his wife (played by Namikawa Tomoko) and children often go hungry, sometimes being pursued by the landlord for rent, and at other times being confronted by other parents due to troubles caused by their son, Akin (played by Kato Seiichi). However, Okabe remains undaunted, as he believes that if he can win over the wealthy Huda family, he can escape from poverty. The next day, Okabe sets out, only to discover at the Huda family’s doorstep that a salesman from a rival company, Nakamura (played by Sekiguchi Takaomi), is aggressively pursuing business. The two end up in a heated fight, infuriating the female head of the household (played by Akiyama Shizue), and they are ultimately thrown out. In order to obtain the policy, these two little people try every possible means...
