The story recounts the 1970 Miss World beauty pageant, an international event that attracted millions of viewers globally. A newly formed feminist organization believed that beauty contests demeaned women and strongly opposed it, even interrupting the event by storming the stage during the competition. Although they were quickly removed and the contest continued, a more provocative scene soon unfolded: the crowned winner that night was not the favorite Miss Sweden, but Jennifer Hosten from the Caribbean island of Grenada, who became the first Black woman to win the title. In just one hour, the global audience witnessed a blatant challenge to patriarchy and a complete subversion of Western aesthetic standards. The beauty pageant stirred up significant waves, marking a remarkable victory for the feminist movement.
