In 1867, in a teahouse in Zhangqiu, Shandong. A dashing young man skillfully helped three brothers divide a box of ancestral ingots. The three brothers expressed their immense gratitude, and before parting, the young man introduced himself: "My surname is Meng, my name is Jisheng, and I am known as Luochuan." Meng Luochuan's mother, Madam Gao, took Mencius's mother as her role model and was deeply worried as her son had expelled three tutors in succession. News came from Beijing that a silk shop was sealed due to offending the Qing Wangfu's Cheng Beile. In a time of crisis, Meng Luochuan was appointed to represent his uncle as the temporary business leader of Ruifuxiang and went to Beijing. Young and impulsive, he not only failed to unseal the shop but also faced expulsion by his father-in-law and humiliation from Cheng Beile. The manager of the Ruifuxiang in Beijing died in resentment. A cotton disaster broke out in Shandong, threatening the entire province's textile industry. While seeking sources in Hebei, Meng Luochuan's supply was seized by another Meng family's business due to a mistake made by the manager in Jinan, Ai Zhongqing, leading to conflict between Meng Luochuan and Ai Zhongqing. At this moment, Meng Luochuan discovered a cloth made of a mix of foreign and local yarns, seeing hope for saving the shop. However, this again led to conflict with Ai Zhongqing. Meng Luochuan decided to go his own way. While worrying about funds, Meng Jinhao introduced him to Long Ye, a character from Tianjin, resolving his financial issues. At this time, Meng Luochuan met a courtesan named Zhong Liu Jie, and they fell in love at first sight. With the help of Long Ye and others, Liu Jie left the brothel and joined Meng Luochuan. Amidst the chaos of the uprising, the court ordered Ding Baozhen, the Shandong governor, to end the war. When Ding Baozhen struggled with the lack of funds for defenses, Meng Luochuan provided assistance and secured a thirty-year exclusive tea sales right. To raise funds for fortifications and to mobilize assets, Meng Luochuan opened a pawnshop and implemented a major initiative by issuing bonds. Upon learning about the conflict between Meng Luochuan and Ai Zhongqing, Meng Jinhao and Long Ye conspired behind Meng Luochuan’s back to frame Ai Zhongqing, resulting in Ai Zhongqing taking his own life in despair. His son, Ai Longbiao, entered the shop. With Meng Luochuan's support, Ding Baozhen successfully reported back to the court. To thank Meng Luochuan, Ding Baozhen helped reconcile Meng Luochuan with his father-in-law, and Meng Luochuan married Wang Xueying. Meng Luochuan was a famous businessman and national capitalist during the late Qing and early Republic periods, and the "Ruifuxiang" business he founded became extremely renowned. Folk songs circulated at the time, such as “In the south, there is Hu Xueyan; in the north, there is Meng Luochuan.” Meng Luochuan's life penned a legendary tale of a Confucian merchant striving for the betterment of society.
