Once a police officer, Hans (played by Hans Hirschmüller) lost his job due to a false accusation by a prostitute. To make ends meet, he, filled with ambition, had no choice but to become a fruit vendor. Unable to gain the trust and admiration of his beloved's parents, Hans, now of marrying age, eventually married a woman named Irmgaard (played by Irm Hermann). After getting married, Hans's life officially took a downward turn, as Irmgaard's brutality and rudeness only exacerbated his misfortunes.
