In 1931, the monarchy in Spain was replaced by a republic. Fernando (played by Jorge Sanz), a deserter from the Madrid army, is questioned by two guards during his escape. The veteran decides to let him go, but the young soldier thinks it goes against military orders. They begin to argue, and from this, Fernando learns that they are father-in-law and son-in-law. Later, the son-in-law accidentally kills his father-in-law and, filled with regret, commits suicide. Witnessing this scene, the frightened Fernando runs away in a panic.
