Quesa (played by Louis de Funès) moves to a new city with his daughter Nicole (played by Geneviève Grad) for work and life. To avoid being teased by her new friends, Nicole falsely claims that her father is a millionaire and owns a luxurious yacht. Her friends insist that Nicole take them to the yacht for fun, and to maintain her lie, Nicole is forced to deceive the yacht manager. The real owner of the yacht is a local mafia boss who has just illegally acquired a priceless painting and hidden it in his beloved car. Unbeknownst to them, Nicole's friends mistakenly believe that the car belongs to Nicole's father, so they sneak out with it for a joyride. Eventually, their series of deceptions are uncovered by Quesa. While trying to return the car to its rightful owner, Quesa accidentally takes the painting, which leads to him being mistaken for a painting thief.
