Former Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army leader Lao Qiu fought against the Japanese invaders under extremely difficult conditions for many years. After losing contact with his organization, he managed to join the Eighth Route Army's Jiangdong Military Division. The Kuomintang's Yunnan Army's 278th Regiment was consistently marginalized by the Central Army, and regiment commander Song Yunjie, unable to endure it any longer, decided to lead his troops to defect to the Eighth Route Army. After learning the situation, the military district leaders dispatched Lao Qiu, who was familiar with the local conditions, to meet with the commissar Luo Tianjing to assist the troops that were willing to defect. Unfortunately, Luo Tianjing was killed in action, and before his death, he entrusted Lao Qiu with completing the mission. Lao Qiu teamed up with the Long Wanhul siblings, whom he had saved years before, to solve the ammunition and food issues of the Yunnan Army, helping them successfully rebel. Lao Qiu led the Yunnan Army to reorganize in Lianhua County but was suspended and investigated due to issues related to taking over the commissar position and the history of the Anti-Japanese United Army. A misunderstanding arose between the garrison in Lianhua County and the Yunnan Army, nearly leading to armed conflict, but Lao Qiu appeared just in time to resolve the conflict. During the reorganization of the troops, Kuomintang spies plotted to instigate a betrayal, but Lao Qiu cleverly exposed the truth, stabilizing the morale of the army. Lao Qiu strictly implemented the Party's policies, patiently and meticulously transforming the troops. After this baptism, the Yunnan Army changed from a warlord-dominated old army into a force that obeyed the Party's commands, with strong combat effectiveness and the support of the public.
