Former Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army leader Lao Qiu fought against the Japanese invaders under extremely difficult conditions for many years. After losing contact with his organization, he managed to join the Eighth Route Army's Jiangdong Military Division. The Kuomintang's Yunnan Army's 278th Regiment was consistently marginalized by the Central Army, and regiment commander Song Yunjie, unable to endure it any longer, decided to lead his troops to defect to the Eighth Route Army.
