A French volunteer corps stationed in a East African colony, which strictly adheres to the principles of doctrine, honor, and obedience, welcomes a group of new recruits. Among them, the most remarkable is the handsome and strong Santin (Grégoire Colin), who simultaneously attracts the passionate gaze of Commander Bruno (Michel Subor) and Lieutenant Bourgoin (Denis Lavant). As they interact, Santin and Bruno gradually show hints of ambiguous same-sex affection, which causes discomfort to Bourgoin, who then experiences a mix of jealousy fueled by various emotions. Ultimately, he sets a trap to force Santin to leave the corps, but in doing so, he also ends his own career in the army.
