Han Sumei is an unfortunate woman. During those turbulent years, she wandered alone to a rural area in the northwest, where the kind-hearted Wu mother took her in. Unexpectedly, her son, Wu Jinwang—an unaccomplished middle-aged bachelor—took advantage of his position and violated Sumei. Soon after, Sumei discovered that she was pregnant and had no choice but to marry Jinwang. Following that, their sons Yongnan and Yongqiang were born, but Jinwang continued to indulge in drinking and gambling, neglecting his family. The couple frequently quarreled and fought. Sumei considered divorce several times, but ultimately endured for the sake of her children and at her mother-in-law's pleading. A blacksmith named Zhao Dalong came to the village to repair farm tools. This warm-hearted and capable young man took pity on and cared for Sumei, and they became involved. There were rumors in the village about Sumei and Dalong's relationship, and upon hearing this, Jinwang violently beat Sumei, causing her to fall ill. Following Sumei's persuasion, Dalong left the village. Jinwang passed away due to his illness, and upon hearing the news, Dalong proposed to Sumei. She planned to move to town with her children, but Yongnan firmly refused to go with her and pleaded with his mother not to leave. Despite this, Sumei resolutely followed Dalong, leading to a sudden estrangement and coldness between her and Yongnan. Over ten years later, after graduating from university, Yongnan became an excellent pathologist, determined to uncover the truth behind his father's death. By chance, he discovered that his father's death was similar to poisoning from a certain chemical substance. Just as the village was about to construct a road and relocate the graveyard, an autopsy confirmed that Jinwang indeed died from poisoning. Under Yongnan's persistent questioning, Sumei finally confessed everything to her son: she had poisoned her husband to escape her tragic marriage… In order to uphold social justice and the dignity of the law, after intense internal struggle and despite numerous obstacles and criticisms, Yongnan brought his biological mother to court. During this process, he faced misunderstandings from relatives, betrayal from friends, and disdain from outsiders… He experienced regret, hesitated, and even considered giving up. However, he ultimately solidified his belief that “the law is greater than emotion.” .........
