Stuntman Roy Walker (played by Lee Pace) suffers a severe injury while filming a scene where he leaps off a bridge on horseback, resulting in paralysis and loss of sensation in his lower body. In this moment of extreme despair, he wishes only for death. Just when Roy is feeling dejected, a 5-year-old girl named Alexandra (played by Catinca Untaru), who is in the hospital with a broken arm, enters Roy's world.
The two friends, despite their age difference, become close. Alexandra visits Roy's hospital room every day just to hear him tell that magical and fantastical story. Roy, using this improvised tale to captivate the little girl, secretly aims to use it as a means to carry out his suicide plan...
The film won the Glass Bear Special Mention - Best Feature Award at the 2007 Berlin Film Festival, the Best Feature Award at the Sitges - Catalonian International Film Festival, and the Best Screenplay at the 2008 Austin Film Critics Association Awards.
