Kashaf (played by Akshay Kumar), a single man in his late twenties, runs a bicycle shop at home. His domineering father, due to superstition, insists that his son must marry a woman with two thumbs on one hand. To ensure an auspicious date, Kashaf is even arranged to marry a cow. Although Kashaf is submissive, he always hopes for true love. By chance, he meets the educated Brahmin woman, Jaya (played by Bhumi Pednekar). After initial misunderstandings, the couple, who come from vastly different backgrounds and statuses, grow closer and eventually get married. However, their happiness is short-lived; on the day after their wedding, Jaya discovers a serious issue. Due to religious beliefs, Kashaf’s home has no toilet, requiring everyone, including women, to go far into the wilderness to relieve themselves. To protect her rights, Jaya begins a long and arduous battle against her husband and his family...
