William Foster, played by Michael Douglas, is an engineer at a defense contractor who feels very depressed after being fired. Due to his divorce, he isn't invited to his youngest daughter's birthday. Stuck in traffic, he abandons his car and enters a grocery store to find some change to make a phone call, but faces difficulties. In frustration, he grabs a baseball bat and smashes up the store. While resting in a park, he gets into a fight with some thugs; at a fast food restaurant, after a dispute with a waitress, he pulls out a gun he took from the thugs and starts shooting wildly. At this point, he has completely lost control. In the end, facing the gun of a retired police officer, he can't help but ask himself, "Am I the bad guy?"
