In 1981, 9-year-old Cait is living in a large family in the Irish countryside, often overlooked due to her many siblings. With her mother expecting another child, Cait is temporarily sent to live with distant relatives for the summer. She surprisingly adapts to this environment, where a gentle couple teaches her how to connect with nature and find peace within herself. However, in this quiet household, there is a sorrowful secret. Colm Bairéad’s feature debut, born from television documentaries, is astonishing, using powerful cinematography and color to subtly portray the contrasting family environments and the transformation of the girl from self-doubt and shyness to sweet tranquility, seamlessly revealing the history and charm of Ireland. It won the Jury Prize in the Generation Kplus section at the 2022 Berlin Film Festival and became the first Irish film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
