Sitara Sholan (played by Angela Pang) is a beloved princess who receives countless adulations, and everyone caters to her whims. Her domineering personality even makes the emperor wary of her. After marrying the embroidery merchant Ning Fengde (played by Shih Hsiu), she feels she has lowered herself but believes that her husband and his family's status has become more prestigious because of her. The couple has a son, Ning Maochun (played by Wong Chung), and Sholan has always wanted to find an intelligent and beautiful young woman for her son. However, he ends up marrying Tian Li (played by Myolie Wu), the daughter of a counterfeit king. On the wedding day, Tian Li was hiding with her father from the officials' pursuit, and in a state of panic, she jumped into the bridal sedan chair, being sent to the Ning family as a bride. Tian Li decides to play along and deceive the Nings, hoping to use her unique position as a princess bride to save her father, who has been imprisoned.
