The story takes place during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, a time of turmoil where humans and ghosts coexist. The town known as the Ghost City, Fengdu, is said to resemble the Forbidden City at night, with the spirit bridge echoing with the cries of ghosts. Wandering souls who die far from home can only return to their burial places if guided by a skilled Maoshan priest. On a dark and windy night, impoverished Tao Yu and a chubby partner, filled with resentment, attempt to rob the tomb of the warlord Hu Dashuai, but accidentally encounter a group of corpse transporters. A sudden appearance of a dead ghost scares off two of them, and the jewels they had managed to steal are taken by the corpse transporters. It turns out this group is actually helping Hu Dashuai, who is involved in smuggling opium. Eventually, after uncovering Hu Dashuai's secret, the duo will engage in a series of conflicts with this villain...
