The story revolves around a family with the surname Ma, taking the younger son Ma Liang's embezzlement as a starting point to dramatically depict the state of a family facing disaster, thus presenting a picture of the life of the lower-class citizens in China during the 1990s and shaping the characters of contemporary ordinary people.
