A group of unpaid construction workers sets out to foreign lands in search of a better life, only to disappear at sea overnight. The women they left behind in Dakar suffer from an inexplicable fever. Seventeen-year-old Aida mourns her lover Suleiman (one of the deceased workers) in secret, but she has been promised to another man. On her wedding night, a great fire breaks out, and a young police officer is dispatched to investigate. However, he is unaware that these aggrieved workers have returned, transformed into restless and possessive ghosts. Many of them seek revenge for their injustices, while Suleiman has different intentions; he wants to see Aida one last time.
