"Transnational Pursuit" is a documentary-style television series themed around the anti-corruption efforts of the prosecution system. It is inspired by Li Jingtian's report literature "The Unappointed Anti-Corruption Director," which serves as its basic prototype. Young prosecutor Li Yaning (initially the leader of a major cases group and later the deputy director of anti-corruption) discovers that Hong Kong investor Ye Zongxian has made enormous payments labeled as "business development fees," which are actually bribe money, while investigating his smuggling and bribery case. During the investigation, he repeatedly faces strong interference and obstacles. With the deft support of Chief Prosecutor Gong Yuxin, he gradually uncovers a vast network of corruption behind Ye Zongxian, discovering that Lu Jianwei, the director of the Municipal Highway Bureau (later deputy director of the Provincial Highway Bureau), is the source and core figure of the corrupt activities. However, Lu Jianwei is a hero of provincial and municipal economic development and a political star, which blinds some important provincial and municipal leaders, making the investigation arduous. Li Yaning tenaciously pursues the bribery case, facing false accusations of rape and even attempts on his life, but he assesses the situation and navigates through twists and turns. Ultimately, he discovers Chen Jianji, Lu Jianwei's biological brother, who is deeply hidden and the direct executor of all bribery, murder, and fraud activities, leading to a breakthrough in the investigation. Just as they prepare to arrest Chen Jianji, corrupt elements infiltrated in the prosecution leak information, allowing Chen Jianji to flee to a chaotic Southeast Asian country, making it impossible to obtain legal support for his capture. With all criminal evidence falling on Chen Jianji alone, the urgent task becomes a risky cross-border pursuit. With limited funding and no guarantee of safety, Li Yaning and his comrade Liu Yangchun leave the country as civilians and engage in a struggle against Chen Jianji, who is under the protection of local organized crime. After enduring numerous hardships, they finally manage to apprehend him, but Liu Yangchun sacrifices his life heroically.
