This film is based on a true story. Bob (played by Greg Kinnear) is a charming university professor who is well-liked by both teachers and students. In his spare time, Bob enjoys making small inventions, and one day, he conceived a device that could automatically wipe rainwater off car windows—the windshield wiper—and he successfully invented it. However, shortly after the invention of the windshield wiper, it was not given any attention by manufacturers. Before long, Bob discovered that this device had been used in large quantities by Detroit automobile manufacturers without his authorization. Angered, Bob filed a lawsuit against the car manufacturers, but this prolonged legal battle dragged Bob and his family into a bottomless vortex. The road to protecting his rights was long and arduous, during which Bob even received death threats against his life.
