Raj (played by Abhishek Bachchan) is getting older but remains single, having no plans to start a family. This worries his mother and uncle, who are determined to bring Raj back into their lives. They constantly introduce him to various marriage prospects, but none of the girls catch Raj's eye. Instead, it is Namrata (played by Aishwarya Rai), an employee under his uncle, who attracts Raj's attention. However, Namrata is a single mother; her husband abandoned her while she was still pregnant. In an effort to gain Namrata's affection, Raj starts getting close to her son, but to Namrata, Raj's every move seems merely a tactic. Ultimately, Raj's persistence and sincerity touch Namrata, but just as they begin to open their hearts to each other, Namrata's ex-husband returns.
