Bahar (played by Golshifteh Farahani) is a young lawyer whose hometown has been attacked by terrorists. In the midst of war, Bahar loses her husband, and her son is taken hostage by the terrorists. Bahar herself, along with thousands of women who have experienced the same fate, is imprisoned. Relying on her intelligence and courage, Bahar leads the women to escape from prison and organizes a female army called "Women of the Sun" to declare war on the terrorists, vowing to reclaim their homeland. Matilde (played by Emmanuelle Bercot) is an experienced war journalist who closely follows Bahar as she fights her battle, capturing the army's poignant struggle through her lens.
